Rodney De Vore is proud to be a lifelong resident of Paterson, New Jersey. He is a product of the Paterson Public School System as he attended PS # 10 and Eastside High School. Education was not his original choice of a career. While in high school, his desire was to study law. However, while obtaining his undergraduate degree at William Paterson College, he began substitute teaching at Eastside High School. That was when he fell in love with the idea of becoming an Educator and considered it as a career choice. It was during these two years that he realized he had a passion for helping young people make a difference in their lives through education. He changed his major from Political Science to a double major of English and History and graduated with a degree in 1991.
He taught for a year at Eastside High School. Currently he is employed at Passaic County Technical Institute and has in the past taught History, English, and Literature. He now serves as the Discipline Coordinator/Dean of Students with an enrollment over 3, 200 students. There are many duties under his job description but his primary role is to maintain order, discipline, and safety throughout the school which fosters the necessary environment and climate for students to learn efficiently. During his tenure, he has also been a class advisor, worked on the African/American History Committee, Hispanic Heritage Committee, Teacher Mentoring Committee, Teacher of the Year Committee, as well as supports ALL student activities at PCTI.
He still makes use of is background in political science and is very involved in the politics and community of his beloved city of Paterson and State of New Jersey. He is the campaign manager and community liaison for Shavonda Sumpter, state assembly woman of the NJ’s 35th district.
He has been married to a wonderful woman, Deanna M. De Vore, for the past twenty one years. And the desire and natural inclination to become an excellent educator was nurtured when he became the father of two of amazing children, Bryanna and Jared. He knew he wanted to teach his children the necessary skills to succeed as well as have them be a blessing to others along the way.
As an active member and chapter president of the GREATEST fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., it has provided him the opportunity to work closely with young and talented teenagers throughout our city. Working with our Alpha Teens has given him the privilege to “pay it forward” and give back to our FUTURE LEADERS.
